Bivins Paves the Way for Perris Elementary Students’ Bright Futures
By Connor Forbes
Perris Elementary Superintendent Bruce Bivins has been on the job for one year and has wasted no time putting his mark on the school district.
Bivins who was previously an area superintendent in the San Diego Unified School Districts, was the second hire for the PESD Superintendent position in the summer of 2023. Mike Swize, the former Palm Springs Unified School District Superintendent, held the job for a month before Bruce Bivins was named the replacement.
Starting last October, Bivins collected feedback from teachers, parents, students, and district staff to revamp its programs and policies.
The aim is to “align with a district-wide focus on community belonging, leadership for all, and academic excellence for every child”.
Along with the new mission, a new logo has been unveiled. The logo cleverly incorporates everything from Perris’ history as a railway hub, natural colors of the surrounding environment, a playground slide, and a sun to representing a new beginning for the district.
“This is an exciting time for the Perris Elementary School District. Our new mission and core values reflect our commitment to every student’s success and well-being,” stated Bivins. “The process we undertook to drive the changes we’ve made ensured that our school community’s voice was heard, valued and acted upon.”
