Cemetery Burglary
PERRIS – A 28-year-old man was behind bars Saturday for allegedly breaking into a cemetery maintenance building and stealing more than $20,000 worth of equipment.
Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department’s Perris Robbery Burglary Suppression Team responded to a building in the 22000 block of Van Buren Boulevard in Riverside at 11 p.m. Sunday, and they were able to obtain one of the two suspects’ license plate numbers.
Authorities served a search warrant at a residence in the 18000 block of Seaton Avenue in Mead Valley at 12:30 p.m. Friday. The Perris City Special Enforcement Team along with the suppression team and Perris Gang Task force allegedly found evidence related to the crime and arrested Kevin Mateas of Mead Valley without incident.
Mateas was arrested on suspicion of burglary, felony vandalism, and committing a felony while out on bail. He was booked into the Cois Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta with a bail set on $50,000.
Background information on Mateas was not available. The second suspect remains at large.
