Ambulance Crash

LAKE MATHEWS (CNS) – An investigation was continuing Tuesday into a crash involving a private ambulance just north of Lake Mathews that left one person dead and two injured.

Grace Porretta, 90, of Perris died soon after the accident Saturday morning on El Sobrante Road, less than a quarter-mile east of Willow Drive, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Officer Javier Navarro said Porretta was being transported via the private ambulance service, which was not identified, to a Riverside hospital about 6:45 a.m.

“The ambulance was heading west on El Sobrante,” Navarro said. “For reasons still under investigation, the vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree.”

Riverside County Fire Department crews reached the location minutes later and discovered Porretta in grave condition, while the ambulance driver and another attendant suffered minor injuries.

Navarro said a second ambulance retrieved the parties and transported them to Riverside Community Hospital, where Porretta died shortly after 8 a.m. Saturday.

The other victims were treated and released.

The CHP was asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash, or may have any other information relevant to the investigation, to contact the agency’s Riverside office at 951-324-7210.
