Driver Dies in Menifee Collision

MENIFEE (CNS) – A motorist whose pickup truck plowed into the rear of a tractor-trailer in Menifee suffered health complications immediately after the collision that precipitated his death, authorities said Thursday.

The crash occurred shortly before 10 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Menifee Road and Highway 74, according to the Menifee Police Department.

Agency spokesman Chase Coburn said the pickup driver, whose identity was not immediately released, ran into the semi while eastbound at an unconfirmed speed. It was unclear whether the big rig was in motion or stopped at the time.

Riverside County Fire Department paramedics reached the location within a few minutes and were tending to the motorist when he “suffered a medical emergency” and became unresponsive, Coburn said, without elaborating further.

The victim was taken to a regional trauma center, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

The trucker was not hurt.

Coburn said alcohol or drugs do not appear to be factors in the collision, which remains under investigation.

Anyone with information was asked to contact the police department’s Traffic Bureau at 951-723-1566.
