Murder of Girlfriend
CORONA (CNS) – A Corona woman who was allegedly assaulted by her boyfriend but declined to press charges or seek medical help has died, authorities said.
The suspect was arrested anyway and is being held on suspicion of murder and other charges, according to the Corona Police Department.
Officers responded to the 1700 block of Wren Avenue at 11:50 p.m. on Sept. 25 regarding an assault inside a residence.
Officers forced their way inside after multiple attempts to make contact and to “ensure the victim’s safety,” where they found Avery King, 52, suffering from “multiple visible injuries,” the department said.
King declined medical treatment at the scene and chose not to pursue prosecution toward Rivera, who was suspected of causing her injuries, police said.
Manuel Angel Rivera, 55, of Corona, was nonetheless arrested on suspicion of domestic violence and booked into Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside on Sept. 26, with bail initially set at $500,000. An Emergency Protective Order was issued for King’s protection.
After no one was able to make contact with King several hours later, her family conducted a welfare check at her residence where they found her dead in her home, police said.
“Due to the suspicious circumstances of the death, it is being investigated as a homicide,” the department said.
A potential first-degree murder charge was added against Rivera, and his bail was upped to $1 million.Anyone with information about the case was urged to contact Detective Jason Goudy at Jason.Goudy@CoronaCA.gov, or 951-739-4880.
