Pedestrian Hit and Run
PERRIS (CNS) – A 58-year-old man suspected of plowing into a pedestrian on a Perris street, then fleeing the scene, was behind bars last Friday.
Sergio Armand Peralta Herrera of Nuevo was arrested and booked into the Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta Thursday on suspicion of hit-and-run resulting in great bodily injury.
Herrera is being held on $25,000 bail.
According to Riverside County sheriff’s Sgt. Jeremy Bracey, shortly before 9 p.m. on March 15, the victim, identified only as a Perris man, was standing in the No. 1 lane on the southbound side of North Perris Boulevard when a 2020 Ford Edge compact SUV approached at an unconfirmed speed.
Bracey alleged the motorist slammed into the victim and sped away in the direction of the Ramona Expressway.
Witnesses called 911, and county fire department paramedics reached the location minutes later, rendering aid to the critically injured pedestrian.
The man was taken to Riverside University Medical Center in Moreno Valley, where he remained in critical condition Friday.
Bracey said that investigators later confirmed the license plate of the vehicle involved, tracing it to Herrera, who was taken into custody without incident at noon Thursday in the area of Dunlap Drive and Nuevo Road.
Background information on the suspect was unavailable.
