MORENO VALLEY (CNS) – A man suspected of killing a Moreno Valley resident during a confrontation on the south end of the city has been arrested, authorities said Thursday.

Joe Miramontes, 31, of Moreno Valley was arrested on Wednesday at an apartment complex in the 1400 block of Laurel Avenue in Pomona, and he was booked on suspicion of murder at the Robert Presley Detention Center, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department reported.

According to the sheriff’s department, Miramontes and Gilbert Ramirez, 30, were involved in a dispute at about 10:30 p.m. Monday in the 24000 block of Bostwick Drive, near Cactus Avenue.

During the encounter, Miramontes allegedly pulled a handgun and shot the victim several times, then left the location, Sgt. Lance Stoyer of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said. Deputies and paramedics arrived a short time later and pronounced Ramirez dead at the scene.

Central Homicide Unit detectives identified Miramontes as the alleged shooter and obtained an arrest warrant, according to the sheriff’s department. A possible motive for the attack was not disclosed.
