Jesse Gonsalez Lopez, Perris High School Coach, Posted Bond Friday

MURRIETA (CNS) – A 27-year-old Perris High School athletic coach suspected of inappropriately touching female students posted a $10,000 bond Friday and was released from custody.

Jesse Antonio Gonsalez Lopez of Perris was arrested and booked into the Byrd Detention Center Thursday on suspicion of lewd acts on a child, sexual battery and annoying a minor.

Lopez secured bail Friday morning and was released from the Murrieta jail.

According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, in August, a school resource deputy was notified of possible “inappropriate contact” between the suspect and several students, whose identities were not disclosed, at the campus, located at Nuevo Road and Perris Boulevard.

Perris Union High School District administrators placed Lopez on administrative leave while deputies conducted an investigation, sheriff’s Sgt. Mike Kelleher said.

He said that detectives from the department’s Special Victims Unit developed further information that led to an arrest warrant being procured and served on Lopez Thursday morning at his apartment on Fourth Street, where he was taken into custody without incident.

Lopez’s specific position in the athletics department, the circumstances behind the alleged illicit acts and the length of his employment could not be confirmed Friday.

Anyone with information relevant to the investigation was asked to contact the Special Victims Unit at 951-955-1698.
