Romoland Woman Arrested

NUEVO (CNS) – A suspect who was allegedly caught with stolen mail belonging to more than 50 people in Nuevo and Menifee remained in custody Friday.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department received a citizen report at 2 p.m. Tuesday concerning a firsthand report of a woman tampering with a community mailbox on Sandy Plains Drive in Nuevo, according to a department statement. The citizen said the person had fled the location but provided deputies with the woman’s vehicle description.

Deputies searched the area and performed an enforcement stop on a vehicle that matched the description, according to the statement.

The driver, identified as 42-year-old Romoland resident Kristen Starnes, was discovered to be “in possession of a large quantity of stolen mail,” according to the department. Inmate records indicate that she was arrested less than four hours after the initial report at the intersection of Brown Street and Hansen Avenue.

Starnes is currently being held at the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning on $250,000 bail on suspicion of charges including vandalism, petty theft and identity theft, according to inmate records. She is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 4 at the Riverside Hall of Justice.

The department did not disclose whether ballots or other election materials were among the allegedly stolen items.

Anyone with additional information was encouraged to call the Riverside County Sheriff’s dispatch at 951-776-1099 or the Perris Station at 951-210-1000.
