LOS ANGELES (CNS) – “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire” opened with $45.2 million this weekend to lead all films in North America, according to industry estimates released Sunday.

The latest entry in the rebooted franchise features Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson and Annie Potts — who all starred in the 1984 original with the late Harold Ramis — along with Paul Rudd and younger cast mates Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace and Emily Alyn Lind. It was directed by Gil Kenan and produced by Jason Reitman, the son of original “Ghostbusters” director Ivan Reitman.

Second place went to “Dune: Part Two,” which grossed $17.6 million in its fourth week, Comscore reported.

“Kung Fu Panda 4” slipped to third place with $16.8 million Friday through Sunday in its third week in theaters.

The horror film “Immaculate” starring Sydney Sweeney opened in fourth place with $5.3 million, followed by “Arthur the King,” which stars Mark Wahlberg as an adventure racer who befriends a stray dog, with $4.3 million in its second week.

Another horror film making its debut this weekend, the 1970s-set “Late Night With the Devil,” took sixth place with $2.83 million.

Rounding out the top 10 domestic releases were “Imaginary” ($2.8 million), “Love Lies Bleeding” ($1.5 million), “Cabrini” ($1.4 million) and “Bob Marley: One Love” ($1.1 million).

This weekend’s overall three-day box office haul was estimated at $104.6 million. The year-to-date total is $1.466 billion — down 9% from the figure at this time last year, according to Comscore.
