LOS ANGELES (CNS) – “Deadpool & Wolverine” continues to rack up impressive numbers at the box office, grossing $97 million in its second weekend to easily lead all films in North America, according to industry estimates released Sunday.

The third film featuring Marvel’s superhero character played by Ryan Reynolds, which also stars Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, claimed the eighth-best second weekend in history, following its huge $211 million opening weekend, which was the sixth-biggest all-time.

“Twisters” was second with $22.6 million Friday through Sunday in its third weekend in theaters in the United States and Canada, Comscore reported.

“Trap,” a thriller directed by genre stalwart M. Night Shyamalan, opened in third place with $15.6 million.

Children’s movies took the next three spots, with “Despicable Me 4” adding $11.2 million in its fifth weekend and “Inside Out 2” grossing another $6.7 million in its eighth week.

“Harold and the Purple Crayon” opened in sixth place with $6 million.

Rounding out the top 10 domestic releases were “Longlegs” ($4.1 million), “A Quiet Place: Day One” ($1.4 million), “Daaru Na Peenda Hove” ($615,782) and “Bad Boys: Ride or Die” ($600,000).
