Emergency Preparedness

RIVERSIDE (CNS) – Riverside firefighters and police officers later this month will be displaying gear, offering tips on what to do in case of an emergency and providing a host of demonstrations as part of National Preparedness Month.

The annual “Public Safety Preparedness Expo,” held every September, is set for noon on Sept. 28 in the parking lot adjacent to the Galleria at Tyler Mall.

“This year’s theme, `Start a Conversation,’ encourages open discussions about potential disasters or emergencies,” according to a fire department statement. “Although these conversations can be challenging, addressing them now and creating a family emergency plan can significantly enhance family safety. Simple steps taken today can make all the difference when facing unforeseen emergencies.”

According to expo organizers, there will be CPR training, displays of ladder trucks and police patrol vehicles, information on how to form neighborhood watch groups, as well as details on how to join community emergency response teams.

“Building a resilient community requires collaboration, preparation and a commitment to working together,” the fire department stated. “We invite everyone to join us at the Ready Riverside Public Safety Preparedness Expo.”
