End-of-Year Mobilization
RIVERSIDE (CNS) – Starting next week and continuing to New Year’s Day, Riverside County sheriff’s deputies will be deploying sobriety checkpoints, saturation patrols and other targeted operations to catch suspected drunken and drug-impaired drivers as part of an end-of-year “mobilization.”
“During the Holiday Season, we see families and loved ones coming together to celebrate, and our goal is to make sure everyone gets home safely,” sheriff’s Sgt. Matthew Posson said. “Impaired driving isn’t just dangerous; it’s illegal. Let’s make this a joyful and safe holiday season for everyone on the road. We urge people to act responsibly and plan a sober ride home.”
Deputies from the Jurupa Valley, Moreno Valley, Perris and San Jacinto stations are preparing to initiate stepped up patrols and related deployments beginning Wednesday.
The campaign is part of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s recurring “Drive Sober, or Get Pulled Over” program to deter impaired driving.
Authorities reminded motorists that alcoholic beverages are not the only intoxicating items that should be avoided, but also marijuana and other controlled substances, as well as prescription medications and many over-the- counter drugs.
The mobilization is slated to conclude on Jan. 1 and will coincide with the California Highway Patrol’s upcoming Christmas and New Year’s maximum enforcement periods.
Funding for the campaign is provided by the NHTSA.
