PERRIS (CNS) – Authorities have identified a 44-year-old man who was struck and killed by a vehicle while crossing the street at a Perris intersection.

Deputies from the sheriff’s Perris station responded to a major injury traffic collision involving an SUV and a pedestrian shortly after 6:30 p.m. Monday at Ramona Expressway and North Perris Boulevard, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies found the pedestrian unresponsive with major injuries in the eastbound lanes of Ramona Expressway. The victim was taken to Riverside University Health Systems Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries Monday night.

The Riverside County coroner’s office identified the victim Tuesday as Kenneth Woods of Moreno Valley.

Preliminary findings from sheriff’s officials revealed the driver of a Mercedes SUV was traveling eastbound on Ramona Expressway approaching North Perris Boulevard when the collision occurred.

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated during the investigation, officials said.

“Drugs or alcohol do not appear to have been a factor in this collision,” sheriff’s Sgt. Jeremy Bracey said.

Anyone with information regarding the collision was urged to contact Deputy Christopher Galindo of the Perris sheriff’s station at 951-210-1000.
