Online Sex Predator

PERRIS (CNS) – A 54-year-old man suspected of trying to arrange a sexual encounter with a preteen girl — who was actually an undercover law enforcement officer using a fake internet profile — was arrested Friday in Perris.

Victor Bustamante of Perris was booked into the Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta on suspicion of arranging to meet a minor for felonious purposes, sending pornographic material to a minor and attempted lewd acts on a child.

Bustamante was being held on $55,000 bail.

According to Riverside County sheriff’s Sgt. Chris Varela, investigators from the Special Enforcement Team initiated an undercover predator sting operation on Jan. 28 in which a peace officer posed as a 13-year- old girl with social media accounts.

“A response was received from Bustamante,” Varela said. “During several days of communication with Bustamante, he ultimately agreed to meet to perform sex acts with the under-aged female.”

A meet-up was arranged by the suspect for Friday morning at a location on South Redlands Avenue, according to the sergeant.

He said that when Bustamante appeared for the rendezvous, he was taken into custody without incident.

Background information on the suspect was unavailable.
