LAKE HILLS – A 21-year-old man accused of slashing his father with a machete during a confrontation at the victim’s home was charged Tuesday with attempted murder and other offenses.

Collin Adam Stewart of Riverside was arrested Thursday during a Riverside County Sheriff’s Department investigation.

Along with attempted murder, Stewart is charged with mayhem and a sentence-enhancing allegation of inflicting great bodily injury with a deadly weapon.

According to Riverside Sheriff’s Sgt. Patrick Montalvo, at approximately 2:30 am last Thursday, deputies responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon in the unincorporated area of Lake Hills. The victim reported that his son, since identified as Stewart, fled after attacking the father with a machete.

Responding deputies spotted Stewart at the intersection of La Sierra Avenue and McAllister Parkway and took him into custody without resistance.

The victim was taken to the hospital and is recovering from non-life-threatening injuries, according to the sheriff.
