Off-Road Vehicles Crash
PERRIS (CNS) – One person was killed and a second person was critically injured Sunday in a crash in Perris involving a car and two off-road vehicles, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department announced.
The accident was reported around 7:15 p.m. Saturday in the area of Walnut and El Nido avenues, where responding deputies found two Yamaha Raptors and a Dodge Charger involved in the crash.
One of the Raptor drivers suffered significant injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The second Raptor driver was rushed to a hospital with major injuries and was listed in critical condition, authorities said.
According to the sheriff’s department, the driver of the Dodge remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.
Investigators said the Dodge was traveling westbound on Walnut when it attempted to use the eastbound lane to pass a group of off-road vehicles traveling westbound in front of it, prompting the collision.
Authorities said neither drugs nor alcohol appeared to be a factor in the crash, which remained under investigation. Anyone with additional information regarding the crash was encouraged to contact deputy Joseph Puente at 951-210-1000.
