Menifee Boy Seriously Hurt on E-Bike
MENIFEE (CNS) – A youth riding an electric bicycle through a Menifee intersection was hit by a car when he apparently entered traffic without having the right-of-way, authorities said last Tuesday.
The collision happened about 5:30 p.m. Monday at Bellamy Lane and Scott Road, according to the Menifee Police Department.
Agency spokesman Chase Coburn said that the e-biker, identified only as a Menifee teenager, was riding southbound on Bellamy and attempted to cross Scott without acknowledging on-coming vehicles.
A 28-year-old woman at the wheel of a sedan going eastbound on Scott at an unconfirmed speed spotted the e-bike crossing in front of her but was unable to stop and instead attempted to veer right to avoid contact. However, the car’s fender struck the youth, according to Coburn.
He said the car then went out of control and plowed through a roadside fence.
Riverside County Fire Department paramedics arrived within a few minutes and rendered aid to the boy, who suffered major injuries that were ultimately determined not to be life-threatening, Coburn said.
The teen was taken to a regional trauma center for treatment and was in stable condition Tuesday.
The motorist, identified only as a Menifee resident, was not hurt. She was questioned but not arrested.
“Impairment is not suspected to have been a factor in this collision,” Coburn said.
Anyone with information was asked to contact the police Traffic Bureau at 951-723-1500.
