Pyrite Fire

JURUPA VALLEY (CNS) – The Pyrite Fire, which has burned 551 acres in mountainous terrain in Jurupa Valley, was 95% contained by Tuesday morning.

All evacuation warnings were lifted shortly after 5 p.m. Sunday, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

Firefighters worked in favorable conditions Sunday, and resources remained on the line overnight, continuing to build containment lines, according to the department.

Residents were asked to use caution in the area while firefighters continued their work.

Firefighters responded at approximately 5:20 p.m. Friday near Pyrite Street and Granite Hill Drive to reports of a brush fire that initially consumed about 15 acres of vegetation, authorities said.

There were nearly 300 firefighters on the scene, including eight hand crews. They were aided by water drops from two helicopters.

No injuries have been reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
