National Recycling Day is Nov. 15. It’s a day dedicated to repurposing everyday items and reducing waste — a.k.a., stop throwing so much stuff away. Items that would be thrown away can be turned into new ones instead — like lint inside empty toilet paper rolls become great instant fire starters for fireplaces and bonfires. It also helps reduce the world’s amount of trash and is a cost-effective, fun way to help the earth while toasting up during the chilly season.

What You’ll Need:

  • An empty toilet paper roll
  • Lint from 5-6 loads of laundry

How to Make it:

  1. Save dryer lint from washing five to six loads of laundry.
  2. Get an empty toilet paper roll.
  3. Put the lint inside the roll (it should fill the entire inside)

Light the bottom right or left end of the roll. Once it catches, quickly put it in a fireplace, bonfire, or whatever else desired.

Tip: Don’t have an empty toilet paper roll? Cut a paper towel roll in half — or cut it up into four to five slivers for larger areas like bonfires.
