Sheriff’s Hike Fees
RIVERSIDE (CNS) – The Board of Supervisors Tuesday signed off on the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department’s revisions to fees charged by the agency for background checks, fortune-telling licenses and other services, all of which will now be contained in a single ordinance.
In a 5-0 vote Tuesday, the board authorized sheriff’s personnel to implement the fee adjustments and unify them for easy reference under Ordinance No. 1003. The fees, which hadn’t been updated since June 2010, were previously listed in separate county measures.
“We’re combining them into the one ordinance,” Undersheriff Don Sharp told the board.
The modified fees will take effect in 30 days.
The cost of procuring a massage parlor business license will go from $595 to $999. Similarly, the fee to obtain a license to operate a “sex- oriented business,” such as an adult bookstore, will go from $520 to $878.
U.S. Department of Justice fingerprint screening fees, charged for concealed firearms permits and other applications, will jump from $10 to $31, and any public request for specific information on area crime statistics recorded by the sheriff’s department will result in an hourly fee of $81 for research. The prior cost was $50 per hour.
The cost for copies of arrest and booking reports will double from $12 to $24, and the new vehicle impound recovery fee will nearly double from $92 to $181.
Charges for fortune teller business licenses will rise from $130 to $182, and second-hand dealer licenses will now cost $260, instead of $117, according to the revised ordinance.
The fee for a permit to operate bingo games with monetary prizes will increase from $50 to $90.
Additional fee adjustments are in the works for other services.
