Simmer Pots

Embrace the holiday by welcoming guests and loved ones with warm aromas and a beautiful decorative kitchen piece. Simmer pots are a natural substitute for candles and other air fresheners. They make ingredients, like oranges, apples, and cinnamon sticks bloom in the heat and fill a home with what artificial sprays attempt to do. Each combination of ingredients emits a different fragrance — making it perfect for any occasion.
What You’ll Need:
- An old pot (one that isn’t used anymore)
- Water (can be from a sink)
- A stove
How to Do It:
Step 1: Fill up an old pot, or a simmer pot, a little over halfway full with water
Step 2: Put desired objects, oranges, cloves, cinnamon sticks, etc, into the water.
Step 3: Turn on the burner to medium-low and let it sit (make sure to refill it with water when it gets low)
Step 4: When finished, turn the heat off and cover the pot. It’ll be ready for the next use. (Can use one batch 2-4 times).
Different Combinations:
Orange Spice
- 3 cinnamon sticks
- 1 tsp. of whole cloves
- 3 whole star anise
- 1 whole orange, sliced (slice size doesn’t matter)
Apple Spice
- 2 apples, sliced (slice size doesn’t matter)
- 4 cinnamon sticks
- 1 ½ tsp. of whole cloves
- 1 tsp. of vanilla extract
Holiday Cheer
- 1 ½ oranges, sliced
- 1 apple, sliced
- 1 ½ – 2 tsp. whole cloves
- 5 whole star anise
- 3 cinnamon sticks
Tip: Cinnamon sticks and cloves can be found in the Mexican spice section at the grocery store. Star of anise can be found, if not at the grocery store, at most Asian food stores!
