Burlap Floral Door Hanging

Greet summer at the door with this cute floral door hanging! It’s rustic, semi-easy, and sure to stay in style all summer long! Add a few faux butterflies, your favorite faux flowers, or even some ribbon to really make it your own!

What you need:

  • 1 yard of burlap
  • A 10-inch embroidery hoop (minimum)
  • Scissors
  • At least one faux flower bouquet
  • Floor space to complete the project

How to make it:

Step 1: Separate the embroidery hoops. If you’ve never worked with an embroidery hoop before, twist the top metal piece until it is very loose or completely out of the hole it sits in, which tightens the outer hoop.

Step 2: Place the outer embroidery hoop and tightening piece off to the side. Place the inside hoop on the floor in front of you.

Step 3: Lay out the burlap and place it on top of the inside hoop.

Step 4: Scooch the burlap down so there is about three inches of extra burlap hanging below the bottom edge of the embroidery hoop.

Step 5: Fold the overhanging part of the burlap upward to create a pocket.

Step 6: Place the top hoop, the one previously put off to the side, on top of the bottom hoop, which is covered with burlap. It can be tricky to keep the top hoop from popping off — feel free to use your knees and push down on the hoop to keep it in place!

Step 7: Once the top hoop is in place, pull the burlap so it’s tight in the hoops. Get the metal tightening tool, push it through the hole — twist until the top hoop is tightened. Make sure to pull the burlap tight as you twist!

Step 8: Now you will have made a tight burlap back and pocket!

Step 9: Cut about an inch around the hoop! You can clean up the rough edge later by hot-gluing the edges to the back of the hanging to make a perfect circle. You can also leave the free edge to give it a rustic look, like in the picture!

Step 10: Cut and arrange your faux flowers to fit inside the pocket.

Step 11: You’re done once all the fake flowers are in the pocket to your liking!

Tip: Hot-glue the flowers inside the pocket for added stability to make it perfect for outdoor use. Really, make it your own by exploring the different burlap options and patterns!
