Recycled Utensil Holders
By Mia Rotell
This year’s Independence Day is unlike most — it’s America’s 250th anniversary, which means everything is going to be bigger, better and more fun! If you’re hosting friends and family, get creative with every detail of your decorations to make every part of your home as festive as possible — like these recycled utensil holders. What you’ll need:
– At least one can
– A festive napkin
– A hot glue gun
– Flat-backed beads
– Scissors
– Glossy Mod Podge
– A paintbrush
– A glue stick for the hot glue gun
How to make it:
Step 1: Remove the label from the can and wash it thoroughly. Unfold the napkin and separate the festive printed layer from the white backing. Plug in your hot glue gun.
Step 2: Lay the can on its side in the bottom right or left corner of the napkin. Cut straight up the napkin from either the top or bottom edge of the can, depending on which corner it’s in.
Step 3: Set the napkin strip aside and hot-glue three beads to the bottom of the can to act as feet.
Step 4: Once the glue is dry, brush a coat of Mod Podge over the entire can.
Step 5: Place the napkin strip on top of the Mod Podge and trim away any excess napkin.
Step 6: Brush Mod Podge over the napkin until it’s thoroughly coated. Let it dry for 15 minutes.
Step 7: Repeat Step 6 and let it dry for another 15 minutes.
Step 8: Apply a third and final coat of Mod Podge and let it dry for 30 minutes.
Step 9: Once the Mod Podge is dry, your utensil holder is ready to use!
