Homemade Pizza Sauce

I love pizza night. It is so fun to fire up the regular oven or pizza oven and have delicious homemade pizzas. In the past I have bought pizza sauce and dough from the store.

However, the last time I made pizza, I made the dough and sauce from scratch. And boy did they deliver. It made the pizza that much better knowing I had made that much more of the pizza on my own.

I was saying I need to learn how to make mozzarella next to have a totally from scratch pizza.

Anyways, this tomato sauce recipe is pretty straight forward but you will need about an hour and a half before you make the pizza to get it done. Or you can make it a day or two before pizza night and refrigerate it until you are ready. It should last about a week refrigerated.

Ingredients

  • 6 Roma tomatoes cut in half
  • 1 head of garlic, whole
  • ½ brown onion, cut into 1/3s
  • 1 tbsp salt, split in half
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • 1 tsp thyme

To Make

Preheat the oven to 475⁰. On a baking pan lay the tomatoes, whole garlic head, and onions. Salt them with half the salt. Bake for 45 minutes to an hour. In a blender, add the tomatoes, onions, and squeeze out the garlic from the cloves. Add the oregano, thyme, and rest of the salt. Blend until your desired texture. I like it smooth. Refrigerate for half an hour or until ready to use. Enjoy on your next homemade pizza!
