Bunny Coasters
By Mia Rotell
Easter brunches, breakfasts, and get-togethers are what’s on everyone’s minds right now. The candy, the decor and especially who is hosting which event. Not only do cute coasters add an adorable touch to your table, but they also make great gifts to bring to an egg-stra special occasion.
What you need:
– At least 10 feet of jute rope
– Cardboard
– A pen or pencil
– Scissors
– A cup or glass (to trace)
– A hot glue gun
– Four glue sticks
How to make it:
Step 1: Plug in the hot glue gun
Step 2: Place the widest part of desired glass down on the cardboard — this is where the cups and mugs will sit.
Step 3: Trace with a pen or pencil.
Step 4: Draw bunny ears about as long as the main circle. Pointed ears are cute, but rounded ones will be easier to cover with rows of jute!
Step 5: Cut the outline with scissors.
Step 6: Squeeze about half an inch of hot glue at the bottom of the circle, then carefully press the jute rope onto it.
Step 7: Squeeze another half-inch to 1 of glue onto the cardboard, then press the rope onto it.
Step 8: Continue to repeat step 6 and 7 until the entire circle is covered with rope.
Step 9: Hot glue a small line onto the base of one of the ears and press the jute rope onto it.
Step 10: Similarly to steps 6 through 8, glue small amounts then press the jute rope onto the hot glue.
Step 11: Continue around the ear, working your way inward, until the entire ear is covered.
Step 12: Repeat steps 10 and 11 for the second ear.
Step 13: When the entire top is covered, squeeze a small line of hot glue along the side of the cardboard on the inside of one of the ears.
Step 14: Continue to glue and press in small sections all around the coaster until no cardboard is showing on the side.
Step 15: You’re done!
Tip: When gluing the rope next to itself, push the rope into the adjacent layer to keep it as tight as possible — you don’t want to see any cardboard!
