Carlos Lorenzo Martinez
RIVERSIDE (CNS) – A 44-year-old probationer who assaulted a Corona girl walking to school, then fled nude on his bicycle, pleaded guilty Wednesday to felony and misdemeanor charges.
Carlos Lorenzo Martinez of Corona admitted contacting a minor for the purpose of perpetrating a sexual offense, assault resulting in great bodily injury and indecent exposure under a plea agreement with the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office. In exchange for Martinez’s admissions, prosecutors agreed to drop three related charges against him.
Superior Court Judge John Molloy scheduled a sentencing hearing for July 17 at the Riverside Hall of Justice and ordered that the defendant remain held in lieu of $80,000 bail at the Smith Correctional Facility in Banning.
The prospective sentence stipulated by the prosecution and defense was unavailable.
According to Corona police Det. Daniel Clary, about 7:15 a.m. on Oct. 13, 2021, Martinez was riding a bicycle on West Ontario Avenue when he confronted the 12-year-old girl, whose identity was not disclosed, as she neared her school campus.
“Martinez was wearing women’s clothing and approached the student,” Clary said. “Martinez shoved the student to the ground with his bicycle and removed his clothing, exposing his nude body while making sexual references. The girl acted quickly and was able to escape the assault by running to a nearby school bus.”
The defendant rode away, naked, and a witness driving through the area flagged down a Corona police patrol unit moments later, reporting what he had seen, according to the detective.
Officers quickly caught up with Martinez, taking him into custody without incident.
Court records show he has traffic-related misdemeanor convictions but no felonies in Riverside County.
