In an effort to build 30 gardens around the city, Perris welcomes 2 new plots to the community.

Good Hope and Enchanted Hills Elementary Schools are home to the 25th and 26th gardens.

Grow Perris, the initiative behind the satellite gardens, began in 2016, as a component of the Live Well Perris campaign. The goals of the program are to reduce chronic disease by increasing accessibility and affordability of healthy food and provide hands-on horticulture education opportunities.

The gardens are a collaborative effort spanning city government, school staff, and community volunteers.

Mayor Michael Vargas praised Perris Elementary School District Superintendent Bruce Bivins “for his partnership with the city and what he’s doing for our community.”

Bivins emphasized the importance of outside education saying, “It takes a community to raise a school. The garden is an opportunity to take learning outside the classroom and use hands-on experience to get in touch with nature. We want to teach our students about healthy habits, working together and seeing something grow and come to fruition.”

The cornerstone of the Grow Perris community gardens is The Green City Farm located at 135 N. D Street.
