High School Sports Playoffs

With the 2nd week of high school playoffs ending as the Sentinel goes to press, Norco and Santiago remain in the hunt for softball titles, while Corona and Santiago push forward in baseball.

Holding the top seed in D1 softball, Norco’s offense has been hammering away, with a 9-5 home victory over Cerritos Gahr, followed by an 8-1 road win over Riverside Poly on Tuesday. The Cougars hosted Murrieta Mesa in a semi-final showdown on Thursday. In Division 4, Santiago also lit up the scoreboard with a 15-4 thumping of Hesperia Oak Hills, followed by a pitching duel in a 2-1 win over San Bernardino Cajon. The Sharks hosted Chatsworth Sierra Canyon on Thursday.

In D1 baseball, Corona has ridden a 7-0 shutout of Rancho Cucamonga and a 6-5, 9-inning win over San Dimas, for the honor of hosting top-seed Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, today.

In D2 – Santiago travels to Encino Crespi today, following identical 6-5 wins over Fontana Kaiser and Santa Ana Mater Dei. The latter win realized by a walk-off homer by the Sharks Ethan Monroe. After taking a 1-hit shutout into the bottom of the 4th in Calabasas, the wheels came off Norco’s bid to advance, as the Coyote’s plated 2 in the 4th to chip away, followed by 7-runs in the 5th to run away, with a 9-3 win.
