The Democrats Just Can’t Seem to Help Themselves

The reelection of Donald J. Trump as President of the United States of America made something extremely clear, the Democrats are out of touch with Democracy.

With a lot of rhetoric around Donald Trump being a Fascist, a Nazi, a Dictator, Democrats may want to look in the mirror.

In the 2016 election, Joe Biden wanted to run for president. But his boss, Barack Obama sidelined him. He had another heir in mind, though begrudgingly, because of a deal he struck in the 2012 campaign with Bill Clinton

He would throw his weight behind Hillary.

So, in the 2016 presidential election Hillary Clinton was chosen to be the Democratic nominee. By the party apparatus.

Bernie Sanders ran a strong primary campaign and looked to be threatening Hillary’s shots at winning the nomination. But he was sidelined in favor of Clinton by the party, as made public in the Guccifer 2.0 leaked DNC emails.

Hillary wasn’t picked by the people; she was picked by the party.

And so, Hillary lost.

In 2024, we saw another undemocratic Presidential Nominee in Kamala Harris.

Joe Biden’s ego wouldn’t let him step aside after one term as President. Even though he ran on the promise to support the next generation of Democratic leadership and suggesting to aides in 2020 that he would turn over the reins after just 4 years.

But low and behold, power took a grip on him, and he refused to concede that his failing health would be a hindrance. Or that his son and brothers’ extensive legal troubles wouldn’t weigh him down like an anchor.

So, after a disastrous debate in which all that was feared about his health was confirmed he was pushed out of the top spot and quickly endorsed Harris to be his replacement. No primary. No public comment. No choice for the American public.

And so, Harris lost.

In contrast, in 2020 the democratic process was allowed to play out and a legitimate nominee was brought forward to lead the Democrats ticket.

And so, Joe Biden won.

On the Republican side, Donald Trump ran through 2 primaries in 2016 and 2020 and easily ran away with both behind massive public support. The democratic process named him the head of the Republican ticket both years.

And so, Trump won and has been duly elected President by the people for the 2nd time.

Democracy at its finest.
