International Tamale Festival
INDIO (CNS) – The 31st Annual Indio International Tamale Festival will be held this weekend with more than 20 live performances, carnival rides, dancing and thousands of tamales.
The festival will be held Saturday and Sunday between 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Miles Avenue Park, 82524 Miles Ave.
Attendees can expect to experience live music, the Tamale Plaza, a Chavela Throwdown, carnival rides, ballet folkloriko, a car show, mariachi and a mercado, among thousands of tamales.
Grammy-nominated Mexican banda K-Paz de la Sierra will headline the festival and Son Rompe Pera will co-headline with ska-infused cumbia punk, festival officials said. More than 20 other musical acts are scheduled to perform throughout both nights including Tropa Magica, Estevie, Doggyland, Burgundy Blues, Canyon Cody, Sol Del Desierto, and Yungatita among others.
Additionally, festival officials said the Artesano Tamaleria program will make a comeback to showcase tamales from local households, offering participants an opportunity to take their home recipes into a commercial kitchen and into the mouths of festivalgoers.
Admission to the festival is free, but passes for attractions such as carnival rides will require the purchase of a VIP pass. More information can be found at indiotamalefestival.com.
