Malcolm Smith
RIVERSIDE (CNS) – Malcolm Smith, the motorsports legend and founder of Malcolm Smith Motorsports in Riverside, has died at the age of 83.
Smith died Tuesday at his Riverside home of complications from Parkinson’s disease, according to his company’s Facebook page.
Born in British Columbia, Smith started racing in Moreno Valley in 1956. As a competitive racer, Smith was a six-time winner of the Baja 1000, four-time winner of the Baja 500, two-time winner of the Mint 400.
He was also featured in “On Any Sunday,” the critically praised 1971 motorcycle racing documentary that also features actor Steve McQueen.
He founded his business in 1967. Located near the Riverside Auto Center by the 91 Freeway, Malcolm Smith Motorsports sells motorcycles, ATVs and other vehicles.
Malcolm Smith retired in 2014, leaving the day-to-day operations of his business to his son Alexander and daughter Ashley Smith.
