Pursuit in Perris
PERRIS (CNS) – A 16-year-old boy remained under arrest Sunday after allegedly leading deputies on a pursuit in Perris.
Special Enforcement Teams from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department were conducting off-highway vehicle enforcement on Saturday around 2:10 p.m. when they attempted to stop a Polaris RZR driving on a public street, authorities said.
The driver allegedly sped away and drove recklessly endangering other drivers. The resulting pursuit traveled through portions of Romoland, Nuevo and Lakeview and concluded in the hills near Foothill and Orange Avenues, according to Sgt. Kamal Kabbara.
The driver was later described as a 16-year-old boy from Menifee, and he was taken into custody without incident along with his passenger. The passenger, who was also a juvenile boy, was later released to his parents.
The driver was booked into juvenile hall on suspicion of felony evading and reckless driving.
The sheriff’s department reminded the public that operating an OHV on public street is not only illegal, but can be dangerous too. Legal off-road locations can be found by visiting ohv.parks.ca.gov/.
