PERRIS (CNS) – Metrolink service along the Perris Valley Line will be suspended this weekend to provide time for Southern California Regional Rail Authority inspectors to conduct rail line tests following construction at one of the stations, and no commuter trains will be available to retrieve or drop passengers between Riverside and Perris.

“The two-day shutdown is required to allow crews to safely conduct system tests of infrastructure enhancements related to the `Moreno Valley-March Field Station Improvements Project,”‘ according to a Riverside County Transportation Commission statement. “RCTC and Metrolink value our passenger rail riders and appreciate their patience during the weekend closure.”

The last service suspensions connected with the project happened in September. Work at the March Field station is slated for completion before year’s end.

The locations impacted by the shutdown Saturday and Sunday will be Hunter Park in Riverside, the March Field stop in Moreno Valley, the Downtown Perris station and the South Perris station, according to RCTC.

Passenger rail service will be restored at the locations Monday morning.

The downtown Riverside and La Sierra Metrolink stations will not be affected.

“Metrolink will provide alternate transportation to passengers who need to get to destinations serviced by the 91/Perris Valley Line,” RCTC said.

The $33 million Moreno Valley/March Field Station Improvements Project began in October 2022. It has entailed elongating the existing platform to enable passengers to enter and exit all cars in six-car trains, constructing a second train platform and modifying 2.5 miles of track to facilitate a future nine-mile double-track corridor.
