Bicyclist Killed in Collision at Perris Intersection

PERRIS (CNS) – An autopsy was pending Monday on a 54-year-old bicyclist who was fatally injured when she apparently rode into a moving vehicle at a Perris intersection.

Diane Rotarius of Riverside died in the collision Friday at the intersection of South A Street and Redding Way, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

Sgt. Jeremy Bracey said that, shortly before 3 p.m., Rotarius was riding her bike across A Street and entered the intersection just as a motorist, whose identity was not disclosed, initiated a left turn from Redding onto A.

“Preliminary findings revealed … the bicyclist failed to yield to a stop sign and collided with the front end of the vehicle,” Bracey said.

The driver immediately stopped, Bracey said.

Paramedics reached the location minutes later and pronounced Rotarius dead at the scene, according to the sergeant.

The motorist was questioned but not arrested.

“It is unknown if alcohol or drugs were factors in this collision,” the sergeant said.

Anyone with information was asked to contact the sheriff’s Perris station at 951-210-1000.
