MENIFEE (CNS) – A Perris woman was in custody Tuesday for allegedly gunning down a 34-year-old man during a confrontation just north of Menifee.

Kayla Sherea Foster, 35, was arrested and booked into the Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta Monday night on suspicion of murder. Foster was being held in lieu of $1 million bail.

According to Riverside County sheriff’s Sgt. Richard Carroll, just after 4 p.m. Monday, Foster was involved in an unspecified confrontation with Dorian Herrod of Perris Valley at a residence in the 500 block of Haystack Loop, near Jack Rabbit Court.

Carroll alleged that during the encounter, Foster pulled a gun and shot Herrod once.

Witnesses called 911, and patrol deputies and paramedics reached the location within minutes, at which point they found the victim gravely wounded, according to the sergeant.

He said the victim was taken to a regional trauma center, where he died a short time later.

Foster was taken into custody without incident.

A possible motive and the relationship between the suspect and victim, if any, were not disclosed.

Background information on Foster also was unavailable.
