Port of LA Records Best June
LOS ANGELES (CNS) – Dockworkers at the Port of Los Angeles processed more than one million twenty-foot equivalent units last month, making it the busiest June in the port’s history, officials announced Wednesday.
The port processed a total of 1,002,734 TEUs in June, which also marked the third time monthly cargo volume has exceeded one million container units. Officials said no other port in the Western Hemisphere has ever surpassed that mark in a single month.
Loaded imports stood at 530,558 TEUs, an increase of 13% compared to June 2025. It was also the port’s third-highest import month on record.
Loaded exports came in at 126,365 TEUs, unchanged from a year ago, and empty containers stood at 345,811 TEUs, representing a 17% year-over-year increase.
June cargo was 12% higher than in 2025, driven by strong import demand as retailers and manufacturers continue advancing shipments amid changing trade policy, rising fuel costs and global supply chain uncertainty.
During the first six months of 2026, the port handled 5,122,603 TEUs, 3% ahead of the same period last year.
“Crossing the one million container mark for the third time and closing our fiscal year with more than 10.4 million TEUs are remarkable accomplishments,” Executive Director Gene Seroka said during his monthly briefing. “These milestones reflect the consistency of the Port of Los Angeles and the people who make them possible every day.”
Seroka said workers were able to do so without vessel backlogs or cargo delays.
“Thanks to the women and men of the ILWU, our terminal operators, truckers, rail partners and everyone across our supply chain whose professionalism and commitment continue to make Los Angeles the nation’s premier gateway,” Seroka said in a statement.
