Brass Knuckles
PERRIS (CNS) – Three men suspected of pummeling a Perris resident, then fleeing to a house where one of the suspects barricaded himself inside until deputies convinced him to surrender, were in custody Tuesday.
Santiago Fregoso, 18, and brothers Rony Alastaiy Sagastume, 23, and Rony Jose Sagastume, 21 — all of Perris — were arrested and booked into the Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta on Monday night on suspicion of assault resulting in great bodily injury.
Rony Alastaiy Sagastume is being held in lieu of $1 million bail, while his younger brother is being held on $500,000 bail, and Fregoso is being held on $25,000 bail.
According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, between 7 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Monday, the trio attacked a man in the 1200 block of Mt. Baldy Street, near Mt. Rainer Street.
Sheriff’s Sgt. Dennis Santiago said one or more of the suspects utilized brass knuckles during the assault, striking the victim, whose identity was not disclosed, multiple times in the head, inflicting lacerations.
Patrol deputies were alerted to the alleged attack and went to investigate, confirming the identities of the parties involved, according to Santiago.
A possible motive for the alleged beating was not provided.
Santiago said deputies went to the house where the Sagastume brothers and Fregoso were known to be staying.
The sergeant said Rony Jose Sagastume attempted to flee the property when deputies arrived, but was quickly apprehended.
Fregoso was taken into custody without incident, but Rony Alastaiy Sagastume “barricaded himself inside the residence,” refusing deputies’ orders to come out, Santiago said.
He said a search warrant was obtained and formally served on the suspect, who then emerged from the house and was taken into custody without further incident.
No one was injured.
The victim underwent medical treatment, but his condition Tuesday could not be confirmed.
