Mod Podge Glassware
By Mia Rotell
Why is it that we always keep old glass jars — like from olives or spaghetti sauce? Cabinet shelves get crowded with different glass jars and small knick-knacks that sit and collect dust — but for some reason, we can’t bring ourselves to get rid of them. Give life back to those jars and knick-knacks by changing their color. In a colored jar, candles will glow, bouquets will stand out, and everything else in between will be elevated with this timeless concept.
What you need:
A 2 oz bottle of glossy Mod Podge
- A cup
- Food coloring
- A paintbrush
- A mixing stick
- A small glass vase or jar
- Something to cover your work surface (like a paper bag or paper plate)
How to make it:
Step 1: Squeeze out about half of the Mod Podge bottle into a cup.
Step 2: With the desired color, drop six to ten drops of food coloring into the Mod Podge. Mix as you go — once a drop is in the mix, it can’t be taken out!
Step 3: Make sure the Mod Podge is thoroughly mixed — it should not have a white tint.
Step 4: Dip your brush into the Mod Podge and brush it onto the outside of the desired project — not the inside. Load the brush with a reasonable amount of Mod Podge — not too thin, not too thick.
Step 5: Let it sit for an hour to an hour and a half — or until dry.
Step 6: Once it’s dry, it’s done!
Tip: Go over it with another coat if it’s too light when it dries! If you’re using a jar, don’t eat out of it — this project is purely for decoration purposes.
