MORENO VALLEY  – Riverside County residents who want to make a hands-on difference promoting and demonstrating the benefits of recycling have one final opportunity this year to receive training for volunteer certification by the Department of Waste Resources.

The agency will host its last outreach volunteers training session of 2025 at 8 a.m. Saturday in the Department of Waste Resources’ administrative building, 14310 Frederick St., Moreno Valley.

“This program is a great way for residents to get involved, give back and help lead change in their own community,” Volunteer Services Coordinator Mike Perez said.

The orientation for prospective volunteers, who can be as young as 15 years old, will run until around noon Saturday, featuring interactive presentations that “will equip volunteers with the tools, knowledge and resources needed to succeed in their roles,” according to an agency statement.

Outreach volunteer opportunities include hosting seminars in a range of activities.

“From assisting with classes on composting, recycling and waste reduction, to mentoring students in local schools as compost mentors, volunteers directly contribute to building a greener future,” the Department of Waste Resources stated. “Volunteers also represent the department at community events and help promote programs that protect natural resources and reduce landfill waste.”

Volunteers can chose the dates and times that are best for them to help the agency with events.

For information on how to register, residents are asked to visit www.rcwaste.org/volunteer, or call 951-486-3200. Program managers additionally can be reached via email at waste-volunteer@rivco.org.
