LOS ANGELES (CNS) – “Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé” opened atop the box office this weekend, taking in $21 million to lead all films in North America, according to industry estimates released Sunday.
“The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes” was second with $14.5 million after topping the chart in its first two weekends, Comscore reported.
Third place went to “Godzilla Minus One,” the latest Japanese entry in the long-running monster franchise, which opened in North America with $11 million.
“Trolls Band Together” was fourth with $7.6 million Friday through Sunday in its third weekend, followed by “Wish,” which made $7.4 million in its second weekend.
Director Ridley Scott’s “Napoleon” was sixth with $7.1 million, a sharp drop from its $32.5 million opening weekend.
Rounding out the top 10 domestic releases, as estimated by Comscore, were “Animal” ($6 million), “The Shift” ($4.3 million), “Silent Night” ($3 million) and “Thanksgiving” ($2.6 million).
This weekend’s overall three-day box office haul was estimated at $94.7 million. The year-to-date total is $8.367 billion — an increase of 23% over the figure at this time last year, according to Comscore.
