As she had done in the CIF Regional semi-final match against Westlake Village Oaks Christian, with regulation time coming to an end, Santiago junior mid-fielder Hailey Hild (12) scored, bringing the Sharks into a 1-all tie against defending champ, Santa Margarita. And as with the semis, following a scoreless overtime, Santiago won on penalty kicks to capture the regional championship. Only a week earlier, the Eagles of Santa Margarita toppled Santiago in the district title game. Photo by Jerry Soifer

Editorʻs Note: For the second time in 10 days, on Tuesday Eastvale Roosevelts boys’ basketball team defeated Sherman Oaks Notre Dame to capture its first CIF Sectional title, after claiming its first CIF District title against the Knights on March 1. The district final was 79-76, with senior star Brayden Burries leading the way with 37 points, including hitting 6 of 8 shots from behind the arc.

Unfortunately, the Sentinel is unable to publish photos of the game, as renown local photographer Jerry Soiferʻs cameras were stolen in Corona following the game. This, for the second time this winter. If anyone has information to repatriate Mr. Soifer with his cameras, please contact the Corona Police Department at (951) 736-2330 or leave a message on the Sentinel’s phone, at (951) 737-9734.

The Mustangs will play for the California State Open Championship on Saturday, versus San Francisco Archbishop Riordan. The game begins at 8 PM at the Golden 1 Center, home of the Sacramento Kings.
